Have you ever prayed for something with all your heart, only to wonder why nothing seems to change?
Have you ever felt that God was far away, that your prayers were not reaching Him, or that you needed to find the right words to make Him listen?
What if the answer to your prayers begins somewhere you have never thought to look?
I want to share something that may challenge some of you—especially if you consider yourself religious. But stay with me, because this understanding can transform everything.
Prayer is not heard, not answered by a God in the sky.
I know that might feel like a jolt. For many of us, we have spent our whole lives trying to send messages from Earth to a “Great Big Man” sitting on a throne in the clouds, with His feet propped up on the world. We believed prayer meant asking this distant God to intervene in our lives, change our circumstances, or give us something we do not have.
But here is the truth that changes everything: Prayer is heard and answered by God in you.
The Shift: From the Sky to Your Soul
We have to stop looking up and start looking within. When you realize that the power isn’t “out there” somewhere, but rather “in here,” you stop begging and start creating. You stop begging the Universe for a sign and start being the sign.
The Bible itself offers a powerful reminder:
“The kingdom of God is within you.” — Luke 17:21
This teaching invites us to look inward rather than constantly searching outside ourselves for the source of peace, wisdom, strength, and transformation.
Say this out loud with me, because this is the affirmation that activates your power:
“Prayer is heard and answered by God in me.”
Redefining Prayer
Forget the religious exercise for a moment. Forget the memorized scripts and the begging. I want to give you a new definition of prayer—one that actually works.
Prayer is a positive mental transaction within your own mind.

That’s it. It is not a religious ritual; it is a psychological shift. It is what you say to yourself within yourself. It is the internal conversation you are having 24/7.
Think about that for a moment. Every time you speak to yourself, imagine something, repeat an affirmation, or direct your attention toward a particular outcome, you are influencing your inner world. Your thoughts shape your feelings. Your feelings influence your actions. And your repeated inner conversations can gradually change the way you experience life.
To make this practical, let’s put it in the first person so you can own it:
“Prayer is what I say about myself within myself.”
Watch What You Say to Yourself
Consider the words you repeatedly say to yourself:
- “I am not good enough.”
- “Nothing ever works for me.”
- “I will never overcome this challenge.”
These are also inner declarations. They influence how you see yourself and what you believe is possible.
Now imagine replacing them with words that affirm your strength, worth, and potential:
- “I am worthy of love and happiness.”
- “I have the wisdom and strength to overcome challenges.”
- “I welcome new possibilities into my life.”
- “I am connected to the divine intelligence within me.”
The words you choose matter because they help shape your inner experience. This is why prayer can become a powerful practice of self-transformation when it is rooted in love, gratitude, and constructive intention.
How to Answer Your Own Prayer
Here is a simple practice you can begin today:
1. Become still.
Find a quiet place. Relax your body and take a few slow breaths. Allow your attention to settle within.
2. Become clear about what you desire.
Ask yourself what you truly want. Is it peace, healing, wisdom, courage, financial stability, or a better relationship?
3. Speak to yourself with love.
Choose words that reflect the person you are becoming. Speak them gently, with sincerity and feeling.
4. Imagine yourself living in harmony with your desire.
Allow yourself to experience the feeling of peace, gratitude, or confidence that comes with it.
5. Take inspired action.
Pay attention to practical steps you can take. Inner transformation becomes more meaningful when it is reflected in your daily choices and actions.
A New Affirmation for Your Spiritual Awakening
Read these words slowly. Allow yourself to feel their meaning:
Prayer is heard and answered by God in me.
I turn within and discover the divine presence that guides, strengthens, and inspires me.
My inner conversations are filled with love, gratitude, wisdom, and possibility.
I am not separated from the source of peace and strength. I welcome its presence into every area of my life.
I trust the wisdom within me, and I take inspired action toward the life I desire.
The Awakening Begins Within
Perhaps the greatest discovery of spiritual awakening is that you have been searching for something within yourself that you thought was somewhere far away.
You are not a beggar standing at the gate. You are the gatekeeper. The God you are looking for is not in the sky; He is residing in the very core of your being.
Prayer does not have to be a desperate attempt to reach a distant God. It can be a moment of connection, a conscious shift in your inner world, and a reminder of the divine presence that lives within you.
The next time you pray, pause for a moment. Instead of asking, “Where is God, and why is He not answering me?” consider asking:
“What am I saying to myself within myself? What inner truth am I choosing to live from?”
Because the transformation you are seeking may begin with the words you speak within.
And perhaps this is the beginning of a deeper understanding of prayer, God, and yourself.
Your new assignment: Watch your mouth. Watch your thoughts. Because what you say about yourself within yourself is the prayer that is already being answered.
