Fear is the unpleasant feeling triggered by the perception of danger. This fear can be real or just imaginary.

Our brain works by identifying, associating and responding.

That is , you identify something, you associate with a memory then you respond.

Every-time you associate something with fear, or as a threat to your existence, your brain activates a nervous system called sympathetic nervous system.

The purpose of the sympathetic nervous system is to mobilize all the vital energy in our body so that we can use that energy to survive in that environment.

How does the sympathetic nervous system does that. How does it mobilize energy you may ask.

When you are stressed or in a fear state, your sympathetic nervous system is going to contract the muscles that carry or supply energy to all body parts that are not involved in the process of fight or flight and direct that energy to both your hands and legs.

The energy is directed to your hands and legs because these are the tools you use to either fight or run and hide.

Example

Imagine walking along Entebbe road and you happen to find a lion that escaped from the zoo. And this lion thinks you shd be its dinner tonight.

The moment you identify the lion, your brain is going to immediately associate with danger, death which is fear. And it will activate activate the sympathetic nervous system, the sympathetic nervous system is going to mobilize 100% of all the vital energy in your body and direct that energy in your hands and legs so that you can either fight, or run and hide.

Now if you fight and kill the lion or run and hide, that means the energy which was mobilized by your sympathetic nervous system has been used.

But what if its not a lion. What if its your mother in-low, traffic jam or even your boss?

You see, your sympathetic nervous system can not differentiate between something that is real or something you just imagining or even something serious or Mundane.

Your sympathetic nervous system is going to mobilize energy in all these Situations.

The only difference is that the energy that was mobilized under the attack of the lion was used.

The energy mobilized under the fear caused by your mother in-law, your boss or traffic jam is not going to be used.

The energy is not going to be used because you not going to fight your boss, the traffic jam or even your mother in-law.

You just going to sit into that energy which is inform of chemicals when you don’t know what to do with it.

This unused chemicals or energy is going to put you in the state of dis-ease.

If you stay in that state for long enough, the dis-ease turns into a disease. In-fact the word disease comes directly from the work dis-ease.

If this energy is mobilized and not used, its like starting your car key and you press both the brakes and the accelerator at the same time.

So the point here is, any fear real or just imagined will activate this primitive nervous system known as the sympathetic nervous system also known as the fight or flight nervous system.

There are many things that happen to you when you are in the fear or stressed state but i will explain the most fundamental ones..
